Gardening for Girl’s Night

Last Tuesday night, my girlfriends and I got together again for a fun and casual girl’s night. We love any reason to get together and love turning everything into a party; remember Easter brunch? If you missed that post you can check it out here. This time we decided to get together for a potting party. I was totally on board with the idea because I need all the help and practice I can get in perfecting my green thumb. Wes and I are planning on having quite the garden on our new land and I’ll be heading up that charge. In my head, I see myself being Joanna Gaines and totally rocking the farm life with herbs, food and gorgeous blooms, but in reality, I’m not quite there yet. This party was a great way to get the basics down and see my girls at the same time.

Wave Petunias - Potting Party

Our incredible host, Laura (Louella Reese) had everything ready to go for our potting party – tools, pots, soil, and gloves, you name it and she had it covered. All we had to do was assemble our creations. We had the most gorgeous pink blooms from Wave Petunias. There were small ones and large ones and each was vibrant and so stunning. Wave also provided us with these fab aprons so we didn’t get our outfits dirty. If you hadn’t guessed it already, I will also be the type of gardener that wears cute yet somewhat appropriate attire to work in – like these short floral print coveralls. They were perfect for gardening and matched my pink hunter boots that are a garden/farm staple.

We each took our turn picking out the perfect Wave petunias and greenery to fill our pots. Once we had the goods it was time to get to work. Putting flowers in a pot should be relatively easy to execute but we had our fair share of problems that provided many, many laughs. Some of us struggled to get the soil levels just right and our biggest struggle was getting the plants out of the plastic containers they came in. My personal struggle was trying to figure out how to split my plant without destroying the root system. I need two equal parts to go around my tall greenery so it would look balanced. The jury is still out on if I did a good job or not. Be sure to follow along on Instagram stories to see how my girl survives.

We all finally got our plants in their pots and were so happy with our results. The potting party was just what I needed to refresh myself on gardening, even if it was pretty basic. I love how my petunias turned out and love having them on my front porch to greet me when I come home. Now that the azalea blooms have fallen off, my Wave petunias give my porch the pop of pink it always needs. What are your thoughts on gardening? Does anyone have a green thumb or do plants come to you to die?! XO
