Baby Reese: Nursery Reveal

I can honestly say I obsessed over this nursery for so long. I started working on the mood board pretty early on in my pregnancy (read that post here) and kept adding and editing over the next few months. I was at least 6 months pregnant when I really started working on the room because I wanted to make sure it was the design / aesthetic I wanted to stick with.  I’m so glad I was patient with this part of the process because I had a drastic change of heart from my initial ideas to what I landed on. Initially, I was going for a rich navy and nautical theme. I had several images on the mood board with anchors, whales and even a more traditional nautical vibe with accents of natural wood. I bought two changing pad covers from Babies R Us before the went out of business and then realized I was quickly growing tired of it and it was just way too dark.

I really wanted Wally’s room to be colorful, happy, versatile yet all boy. So, I abandoned the idea that I had to have a theme and just went with the shade of blue I liked most and built out from there. Once I settled on the concept, I started shopping around for items to achieve the look. I was pretty cost conscious about everything and stalked each item for sales or deals or borrowed items from other rooms in our house. I could not be happier with how it turned out and find myself just standing in the doorway staring at it all from time to time. I cannot wait to bring our boy home so we can start enjoying it together.

The focal piece of Wally’s room is this vintage rocker. It is decades old and was handed down to Wes from his late grandmother. I found this fabric at a local store and had it recovered to be the perfect nursery rocker. It was also a huge savings as most gliders and rockers are pretty expensive. The bear balloon print hanging on the wall is one my mom painted for our first baby shower and was signed by everyone who attended. This piece is so special not only because my mom painted it, but because it is a constant reminder of how much love and support surrounds our boy every day.

I mentioned earlier how I snagged a few pieces from other rooms in the house. These stripe drapes were in our dining room until I realized the green stripe was the exact shade as the green dot on the crib sheet. Wes was not a fan of moving and re-hanging them but was a great sport in helping me make this room completely perfect. I should mention, we have used our formal dining room a total of 5 times in the 5 years we have lived in this house. They are much better in the nursery blocking the blinding am sun.

I found these great baskets at TJ Maxx and love how they just complement this corner. They are perfect for toys and dirty clothes.
